New Honorary Members

At the May membership meeting of the Austin Healthcare Council, we were delighted to welcome 2 new honorary members to our organization. These esteemed individuals have made significant contributions to the field of healthcare and have demonstrated exceptional leadership in their respective roles. Honorary members welcomed were Austin Mayor Kirk Watson and Retired Admiral Bobby Inman.

Mayor Watson was first elected Austin mayor in 1997, where he won praise for bringing different political sides together around transformative environmental and economic development initiatives. In 2012, serving in the Texas Senate, he led the effort to build a new medical school at The University of Texas at Austin. He was elected as Austin’s Mayor for a second time in 2022.

After retirement from the Navy, Admiral Inman was Chairman and CEO of the Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation (MCC), Chairman, President and CEO of Westmark Systems, Inc., a privately owned electronics industry holding company and Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas from 1987 through 1990.

Since 1990 Admiral Inman has been investing in start-up technology companies. He is a member of the board of directors of several privately held companies. Since 2001, Inman has held the LBJ Centennial Chair in National Policy at The University of Texas at Austin Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, and in 2005 and again in 2009 was the school's interim dean. Inman graduated from Texas with a bachelor's in history in 1950. He has also served on the board of directors of the Council on Foreign Relations, Dell Computer, SBC Corporation (now AT&T) and Massey Energy.

We are honored to have these exceptional individuals as honorary members and are excited to collaborate with them in advancing healthcare excellence in Austin.
